Information from Charlton Guide :
"Treasury notes in $1 and $2 denominations dated 1920 were issued to deal with a shortage of silver coin (precipitated in part by the withdrawal of the cash notes) at a time when the price of silver was very high on world markets.

Two tints, four face plates and four back plates were engraved for the $1 denomination; two tints, two face plates and two back plates for the $2 denomination. There were no check letters, the notes being numbered serially. All notes printed were in series A, which is shown by the letter A prefixing the number.

The Admiral portrait of King George V on the left of the $1 note was the same as the one used on the centre of the 1911 $1,000 Canadian Dominion notes.

Of the $1,200,000 worth of these notes printed, $1,181,704 had been destroyed by December 8, 1939. This amount includes both stocks of unissued notes and notes withdrawn from circulation. Small additional quantities were subsequently redeemed, leaving an outstanding total of about $12,000 face value."
